Edinburgh BioQuarter Public Consultation

Welcome to the consultation website for a proposed masterplan at Edinburgh BioQuarter.

Join us and help shape proposals for a new mixed-use masterplan at Edinburgh BioQuarter. Brought forward by Scottish Enterprise, the proposed masterplan will include a wide range of uses including life science buildings, mixed tenure housing, leisure and retail as well as food and drink, public spaces and amenities.

Site

Land 130 metres south-east of Edinburgh BioQuarter, Nine, Little France Road, Edinburgh EH16 4UX.

The Proposal

Scottish Enterprise (the landowner and applicant) is preparing to submit an application for Planning Permission in Principle. The proposed development is for a major new mixed-use urban quarter.

The proposal includes the following elements:

  • Class 4 (Business) office, research and development floorspace for laboratory and life sciences uses.
  • Healthcare, clinical, hospital, and medical research facilities if required, including training and innovation centres.
  • Residential development which will include houses, flats, affordable housing, build-to-rent, and specialist accommodation.
  • Purpose-built student accommodation and co-living spaces.
  • Hotel accommodation featuring conferencing and leisure facilities.
  • Retail and professional services, food and drink uses, and assembly and leisure uses.
  • Public realm improvements, green infrastructure, active travel and bus infrastructure, and a mobility hub.

Public Consultation Events

As this is a major new planning application, it is subject to two formal public consultation events. We invite you to find out more, meet the design team and share your views.

First Consultation Event

Date: Thursday 30th April from 12pm to 6pm.

Location: Nine, Edinburgh BioQuarter, Plot 9, Little France Road, Edinburgh EH16 4UX.

Second Consultation Event

Date: Tuesday 9th June from 2pm to 7pm.

Location: Goodtrees Neighbourhood Centre, 5 Moredunvale Place, Edinburgh EH17 7LB.

Note: The second event will summarise feedback received from the first event and present any revisions to the design as a result of public comments.

Deadline: Please ensure all comments are submitted no later than 21 days after each event.

Please note, this notice and consultation do not relate to a formal planning application. Any comments made at this stage are to the prospective applicant and are not representations to the planning authority. Comments should not be made directly to the City of Edinburgh Council. If a formal planning application is submitted in the future, normal neighbour notification will take place, and you will have the opportunity to make formal representations to the Council at that time.
